At last, people in the Rocky Mountain Region and Midwest States following a gluten-free diet can also enjoy a great tasting craft beer. Boulder, Colorado based New Planet Beer Company offering gluten-free beers are now widely available throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Oklahoma (March), and Nebraska (May) in grocery chains, liquor stores and restaurants. Additional Rocky Mountain Region and Midwest States will soon follow. Our beer locator doesn’t have our new locations listed as of yet, but be on the lookout in your state. We’ll let you know when the beer locator can provide the specific locations.

Some of you may be asking, “What about the rest of the United States?” We promise that we’re working on it! We have to be able to brew enough guaranteed gluten-free beer for everyone (that’s a lot of beer!), so it takes time to figure that out. We’ll keep you posted on additional states as we add them.

The good news– we’ll be offering all three styles of our gluten-free beer in the states we expand to.

Tread Lightly Ale – is a smooth and well-balanced “Pilsner like” style ale with citrus tones and light in body and color. Tread Lightly Ale is made from sorghum and corn extract, orange peel, hops, and yeast. Tread Lightly supports trail restoration.

3R Raspberry Ale – our award winning raspberry fruit ale has just the right balance of fruit flavor and aroma. 3R Raspberry Ale is made from sorghum and corn extract, natural raspberry puree, orange peel, hops, and yeast. ‘3R’ supports Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle – the 3R’s of waste reduction education.

Off Grid Pale Ale – is a wonderful interpretation of the classic pale ale style. It has a distinctly deep amber color and great character and body. The three varieties of hops provide a wonderful aroma and a citrus and spicy hop flavor. Made from sorghum and brown rice extract, tapioca maltodextrin, caramel color, molasses, hops, and yeast. Off Grid Pale Ale supports alternative energy efforts.

With over 3 million people in the U.S. diagnosed with Celiac disease, restaurants and other establishments are changing their menus to accommodate their gluten-free clientele.  Many stadiums across the country have begun to offer gluten-free options, from gluten-free hotdog and hamburger buns to cookies and beer!

Unfortunately, for those of you headed to Dallas for Super Bowl weekend will have to bring your own game day snacks, the new stadium doesn’t have gluten-free options. However, according to the website, they do permit people with “medical requirements and special needs” who can call ahead to bring in food and beverages. If you are planning on attending the game and want to bring in some gluten-free snacks, or some New Planet Beer, give the Cowboys Stadium Guest Services a call at (817) 892-4161.

For those of you watching the game from home or at a friends house, pick up some New Planet Beer at your local Colorado liquor store.

New Planet Beer attended the world’s first International Beer Bloggers & Online Media Conference that took place November 5-7, 2010 in Boulder, Colorado. Beer bloggers, industry bloggers, and other beer and social media professionals gathered from throughout North America and beyond to meet, learn, and share. What a fun event!

Beer bloggers shared topics ranging from blogging best practices to beer and food pairings. Another hot topic was how to better connect women and beer, which turned out to be a heated conversation…but in the end, it turned out to be an extra reason to raise the glass, so everyone was happy.

The most exciting event at the conference was called Live Beer Blogging, in which New Planet Beer participated. It was kind of like speed dating, but with a lot of beer. Bloggers were seated at 12 round tables of 8-10 people per table, who were armed with computers with a constant connection to their blog, facebook and twitter accounts. We had five minutes per table to pour a sample, educate them about our beer, our company, and field questions. At the end of each time slot, a bell would sound and we’d run to the next table. After 60 minutes of the New Planet Beer pitch, voices were lost, but we had a wonderful time connecting with these beer connoisseurs.

New Planet Beer was the only gluten-free beer represented as both Tread Lightly Ale and 3R Raspberry Ale were sampled. With a heavy gluten friendly audience, our gluten-free beer fared well. Here is a snap shot of what was said about New Planet Beer.

Some of the Tweets:

MrSanjiv: @newplanetbeer: tread lightly ale and 3r raspberry ale. I’m not anti-gluten, but this could turn me. #bbc10

sodakbeer: #BBC10 @newplanetbeer Raspberry Ale – raspberry aroma/taste – gluten free – light bodied – easy drinker!

iBT_Jake: Oh , hello gluten free beer, nice to meet you. 3R Rasberry Ale and Tread Lightly Ale from @newplanetbeer. Very cool what they’re doing.

billybroas: Impressed with my first gluten free beers from @newplanetbeer. It’s made from sorghum.

Goats_Udder: #BBC10 @newplanetbeer 3r raspberry AMAZING RASPBERRY HONEY FLAVOR

Thanks to all the beer bloggers for such a great event!

New Planet Beer fans have been reaching out and asking, “when will we get to try the new Off Grid Pale Ale?” So, here is an update to keep you in the loop.

Our effort to develop a great tasting Pale Ale is still ongoing, but we’re getting close! We have been running test batches since June and we’ve been sourcing our ingredients to get ready for production. We’re running a few more test batches in October and we sincerely hope to launch before the year ends. Off Grid Pale Ale is an American style pale ale with about 35 IBU’s and 3-4 varieties of hops. We have not finalized the hops recipe, but we’re confident that with a few more tweaks we’ll have it just right. One thing I can tell you is that if you like bitter and aromatic hops, this beer is for you. It may not have the malty quality of most traditional pales, but for a 100% gluten-free beer, it will be close to the real deal. The hardest part of making a fuller bodied gluten-free beer is increasing the body in a natural way – no artificial foam and creamy  producing chemicals in our beer! The color is mid-range and is achieved by bringing in molasses and caramel color. The aroma is Cascade hops and the ABV is north of 5%. Please stay tuned and soon we can cheer the New Year with an Off Grid Pale Ale. A portion of the proceeds from this beer will go to a non-profit organization that promotes alternative energy in Colorado.

New Planet Beer Wins Bronze Medal in the Gluten-Free Division at the 2010 Great American Beer Festival.

BOULDER, Colo. (September 22, 2010) – Boulder-based beer company, New Planet Beer won a bronze medal in the gluten-free division at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF). The bronze medal was awarded to their 3R Raspberry Ale, a fruity twist on another fan favorite, Tread Lightly Ale.

“This is a real honor to be awarded a bronze medal as we pride ourselves on being a trusted gluten-free beer. This award only amplifies our commitment of providing the best tasting, certified gluten-free beer to our customers,” said Pedro Gonzales, New Planet Beer Company’s CEO.

3R Raspberry Ale launched in July of 2010 as a well-balanced ale beer made from fermented sorghum and corn, natural raspberry puree, orange peel, hops, and yeast. Not overly sweet, the Oregon grown fruit puree creates a beautiful body color with a natural raspberry flavor. The beer has 160 calories and is 5% ABV. The suggested retail price for the 22 oz bomber style bottle is $5.99.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle – the 3Rs of waste reduction education are what make up the 3R’s of the 3R Raspberry Ale. As part of New Planet Beer’s mission to do good things for the planet, they will donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of 3R Raspberry Ale to non-profit organizations in Colorado who are promoting the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle educational philosophy.

The Great American Beer Festival remains the largest commercial beer competition in the world with 3,523 beers vying for medals (compared to 3,308 entries in 2009). New Planet Beer competed against 13 other gluten-free beers, including Celia Pale Ale by The Alchemist and Gluten Free by Deschutes Brewery, which took the top two honors.

About New Planet Beer

New Planet Beer was established in 2008 with a mission is to help everyone to celebrate life with a great tasting beer and to help do great things for the planet. Their certified gluten-free beers are locally crafted by brewers who bring New Planet Beer the great quality and flavor found only in small batches. The company is Colorado-based, family and friends owned and operated and they donate a portion of their proceeds to ecosystem conservation. Future releases of different beer styles, all certified gluten-free, are under development.

New Planet Beer is distributed throughout Colorado by Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC). RNDC is one of the largest distributors of premium wine, spirits and beer in the United States with operations in Colorado and 21 other states.

New Planet Beer interns, Ryan and Chelsea, learned how to master the techniques of pouring the perfect beer by attending beer festivals and tastings this summer. Watch their video and learn how to pour the perfect beer yourself.

Learning to Pour the Perfect Beer

When attempting to pour the perfect beer, there are many things to consider. Although it may sound like the obvious, it’s important to start with a clean glass. When soap or different oils are present on a glass, the head and flavor of the beer may be ruined. As mentioned in the video, you want to pour roughly three quarters of beer down the side of the glass, then the last quarter of the beer down the middle to create a head that should be anywhere from a one half inch to a full inch and one half depending on the beer. Don’t be scared to pour your last quarter of the beer with some height as some beers are harder to create a head then others. When a head is created, the aromatics of the beer are released, and thus, the beer head is created. With some beers, the yeast will settle to the bottom of the bottle and may come out when you pour your beer. Some people prefer it, others do not.

So, exactly what are aromatics? We could go into all kinds of information regarding beers and the relationship between different chemical reactions, but that information can become boring so I will give you the quick version. During the brew process, the yeast eats up glucose thus creating heat, ethanol (alcohol) and carbon dioxide. Most of the Co2 is removed during the brew process, but some gas will not be released until the pour. Beer, unlike humans, releases gas that will tickle your nose and satisfy time and time again. Try it yourself with a bottle of Tread Lightly Ale today!

New Planet Beer is now being brewed in the new Fort Collins Brewery.

Fort Collins Brewery (FCB) just opened their new state-of-the-art brewery, restaurant and shops. This exciting facility is located on the northwest corner of Lemay and Vine in Fort Collins, CO. A visit is worth scheduling, as this is one of the most innovative brew houses today.

FCB moved its existing 15 barrel brew house over to the new digs, but will be supplementing greater production with the latest in automated 50 barrel systems in the near future. Since New Planet Beer will now be brewed in this larger capacity facility, we can ensure an endless supply of gluten-free beer.

The new brewery also utilizes the most current thinking in sustainable, green technologies. FCB is most proud of their water waste system which is not connected to a public sewer, but rather recycles waste water on to farmlands. This is very much in-line with New Planet Beers efforts to strive to reduce environmental impact so we thankful that Fort Collins Brewery has taken extra steps in making this happen.

New Planet Beer will have the honor of being available in the new restaurant and on tap in the tasting room, so all of you who are eager to visit a brewery with a great tasting gluten-free beer, Fort Collins Brewery is the place to go.

Check out these videos and be one of the first to see the new Fort Collins Brewery and New Planet Beer coming of the production line…and soon to a store near you.

Great bands, crowds and gluten-free beer at the Breckenridge Beer Festival!

On Saturday, July 17th, New Planet Beer traveled up to Breckenridge for a weekend of music, food, and great beer at the Breckenridge Beer Festival. The event was a great success, drawing large crowds of beer lovers and a collection of great breweries such as Stone Brewing Company, Widmer Brewing Company, and Sam Adams Brewing Company, who are not seen at many Colorado beer festivals.

As with past festivals, New Planet Beer featured our Tread Lightly Ale and 3R Raspberry Ale at the Breckenridge Beer Festival. We are once again pleased to say that both styles of beer received much praise and were enjoyed as a refreshing summer treat by many. With fabulous bands, friendly crowds, and great craft beers, New Planet Beer recommends the Breckenridge Beer Festival to our friends and fans as a great opportunity to enjoy beautiful mountain views and some of the best brews around!
